The tide went south for the EAC/EALA teams participating in the Inter-Parliamentary Games in Nairobi this afternoon. At the City Stadium, a brace (two goals) by Hon Odonga Otto and another by Joseph Nsubuga was enough to see the Parliament of Uganda sink the EAC/EALA team 3-1 in an entertaining match.
The day belonged to the Parliament of Uganda who were purposeful upfront and more creative in the midfield. Hon Odonga Otto piled pressure on the EALA team as early as the 2nd minute when his rasping shot missed the goal by inches. Minutes later, striker Hon Mohammed Nsereko also missed a golden opportunity to put his team in the lead.
Just before half-time, Hon Otto beat the defence and fired past goalkeeper Tumaini Komba to give his team the lead.
EALA made substitutions with the coach bringing out an off-colour Proches Mugisha and replacing him with midfielder Emmanuel Diah. EALA ‘s consolation came in the last minute.
The EAC/EALA team however still qualifies for the semi-finals and is expected to face off with red-hot Parliament of Tanzania who fired in six goals against Rwanda yesterday and five goals a day before, against Bunge FC of Kenya.
In the second game, Parliament of Rwanda beat Bunge FC of Kenya 2-0 with goals from Rugamba Kassim and Hon Basile Bayihiki to set itself up for a semi-finals encounter against the Parliament of Uganda.
At the Nyayo netball gymnasium, Parliament of Tanzania beat EAC/EALA 49-9 in a one sided netball match. Hon Grace Khiwelo was the team’s toast scoring 28 goals while Justina Shauri got 15 goals to her credit. EALA replied through Stella Itungu and Mwantumu Ali.
In the second game of the day, Parliament of Uganda beat the Parliament of Kenya 29-11. Star player Hon Sara Netalisire scored 22 goals while Lillian Aduka netted 7 goals. Parliament of Kenya replied through Rose Ometele and Florence Jemtai.
Tomorrow is a rest day for both the football and netball tournament.
