East African Legislative Assembly, Dar es salaam, Tanzania: March 7, EALA Women Caucus in collaboration with Fungua trust in commemoration of International women's day organized a round table a roundtable discussion themed innovation and technology for gender equality and focused on technovation for women in tourism and related sectors.
The event attracted various stakeholders including EALA Members, MPs from Tanzania Parliament, UN institutions, LVBC, Academia, private sector, civil society and women and youth. The event was held at Serena in Dar es Salaam.
Technology helps women access markets, build networks, develop skills and improve services. However, there are significant barriers that prevent women from taking advantage of opportunities in tourism and related sectors.
The Guest of Honour of the event was Ms. Christine Musisi, UNDP Tanzania Resident Representative.
In her remarks Amb. Fatuma Ndangiza, EALA MP and Secretary General for EALA Women Caucus made a call to action to national, regional and internal actors to assess unfinished business and accelerate the advancement of women empowerment and gender.
She further reaffirmed EALA's Commitment to achieving the goals of Regional integration by strengthening gender mainstreaming within EAC and expanding women's participation in cultural, social, political, economic and technological development.
The UN theme for this year's international women's day is: DigiALL: innovation and technology for gender equality.
The event was also graced by Hon. Zaria Menghji, Former Minister of Natural resources and Tourism, Hon. Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, Rector- College of Business education, Ms Brenda Msangi, CEO, CCBRT and Hon. Jacklin Amongin, EALA MP who participated in a panel session on Tourism, climate change, technology and innovation.
