On behalf of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and on my own behalf, I wish to congratulate Dr. Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo following his election as the President of the Senate in the Republic of Rwanda.
The victory of Dr. Ntawukuriryayo is a sign that the Senate has full confidence in his leadership abilities.
I am certain that Dr. Ntawukuriryayo, who he previously served as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Rwanda, has the credentials and the necessary experience to steer the Senate forward. EALA assures Dr. Ntawukuriryayo of its full support. We are confident that with such rich vitae and experience, the Senate President shall deliver the responsibilities of the new docket with impetus and vigour.
In the same vein, I salute Hon. Bernard Makuza, the immediate former Prime Minister of Rwanda and Hon Jeanne d’Arc Gakuba who were both elected Vice Presidents of the Senate.
I also wish to thank the outgoing President of the Senate, Dr. Vincent Biruta, whose mandate has come to an end for steering the inaugural Senate impressively over the last eight years in drafting, ratifying and passing vital Bills.
EALA currently enjoys warm and cordial relations with the Senate and the Parliament of Rwanda. We are committed to ensuring the co-operation moves a notch higher for the betterment of the Republic of Rwanda and the East African Community.
