EALA posts impressive results in volleyball & basketball

East African Legislative Assembly, Kampala, Uganda: December 15th 2019: EALA Teams posted impressive results in the on-going Inter-Parliamentary Games in Kampala, Uganda. In Men’s volleyball, EALA trounced Parliament of Burundi 3-1 sets (18-25), (25-19), (27-25) (23-25) and (15-13) in a hotly contested match. The match started on a high note with Parliament of Burundi showing indications of winning the match. After sealing a first set victory (2518). On resumption in the second set, EALA returned back a rejuvenated side and did not look back.

The match was preceded by another men’s volleyball encounter featuring Parliament of Uganda who beat Parliament of Kenya 3-2 sets (25-18), (25-21) (23-25), (20-25) and (15-11) in an entertaining match that stretched to 5 sets.

In the Women's category, EALA trounced Parliament of Burundi 3-0 sets (25-10), (25- 18) (25-22) in a near one-sided match. EALA dominated the match in the first set and earned 10 clear points through service balls alone. Parliament of Burundi settled into the game late in the third set, giving EALA space to constantly spike in the first two sets. Parliament of Burundi momentarily led the 3rd set (9-6) before faltering.

In Men’s basketball, EALA again proved too good for Parliament of Burundi beating them 46-40 in a late kick-off. EALA led 7-5 at end of first quarter. On resumption, both teams looked balanced leading to a 15-15 tie at half-time. Parliament of Burundi momentarily took a 27-20 lead over the regional legislators as the game ended 34-34 in regular time. EALA however pressed hard in the overtime widening the gap to finish at 46-40.

In the only netball match of the day, Parliament of Tanzania whipped Parliament of Burundi 78-15 in a one-sided affair. The victors took a commanding lead in the first quarter scoring 19 points against the opponent's 6, and never looked back. On resumption, Parliament of Tanzania kept piling pressure with Goal Shooter, Hon Angeline Mabura, a constant threat in Parliament of Burundi's backline. At the end of quarter 3, Parliament of Tanzania had notched 60 points against Parliament of Burundi' 10 points.
