Arusha, Tanzania, EALA, EAC HQ– The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Committee on General Purpose chaired by Hon. Kennedy Mukulia will on Monday commence an oversight activity to assess the implementation of the EAC Budget for the Financial Year 2023/2024 in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
The activity is in line with the Assembly's oversight function as stipulated in the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community; and The Rules of Procedure of the Assembly. The key objectives of the oversight activity are:
i. To assess the adherence of EAC Organs and Institutions to the approved budget for FY 2023/2024.
ii. To evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of budget utilization by EAC Organs and Institutions.
iii. To identify any challenges or constraints faced in budget implementation.
iv. To provide recommendations for improved budget management practices within the EAC.
The oversight activity will involve a series of meetings with the Heads of EAC Organs and Institutions, Directors, and other relevant officers. The participants will be required to present information on the approved programs and projects, Memoranda of Understanding (MOU's) and Financing Agreements, schedules of funds received, and summaries of implemented programs and projects.
This oversight activity is expected to achieve the following outcomes:
i. Increased transparency and accountability in EAC Budget implementation.
ii. Identification of areas of improvement in budget allocation and utilization.
iii. Enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of programs and projects by EAC Organs and Institutions.
iv. Recommendations for streamlining future budget processes and ensuring optimal resource allocation.
The findings and recommendations from the oversight activity will be presented to the East African Legislative Assembly for deliberation and action.
