East African Legislative Assembly, Dodoma, Tanzania: April 11th 2018: The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Rt. Hon. Ngoga K. Martin yesterday called on his counterpart, Speaker, Parliament of Tanzania, Rt Hon Job Y. Ndugai at the Speaker’s Chamber in Dodoma. The EALA Speaker said the Sitting of the regional Assembly in the capital city, presented with it, a good opportunity to share experiences with Tanzania legislators and other stakeholders.
Discussions delved on the areas of co-operation between the two Parliaments including engagements for the forthcoming meeting of the EAC Bureau of Speakers, the Inter-Parliamentary Games and the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Seminar (Nanyuki Series). The above, Rt Hon Ngoga said continue to play a crucial role in strengthening the relations between EALA and the National Assemblies as envisaged under Article 65 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC.
The EALA Speaker further thanked his host, Rt Hon Ndugai for the warm reception of EALA and attributed the same to the existing cordial relations between two Houses. This is the first time for the regional Parliament to sit in Dodoma since it was inaugurated some years ago.
On his part, Rt. Hon. Job Ndugai reiterated the need to strengthen relations and remarked that Parliament of Tanzania was similarly sitting for its budgetary session, that runs up until June 30th 2018.
“I urge EALA Members to take time also to observe the process”, said Rt Hon Ndugai. EALA Members are also expected to participate in outreach activities including tree planting during their stay in Dodoma.
Accompanying the EALA Speaker were Members Hon. Dr. Abdullah Makame (Chairperson, Tanzania Chapter), Hon. Yahya Maryam Ussi, Hon. Nkuhi Fancy Haji and Hon. Akol Rose Okullu.
